Loophole Exempts Washington Insiders From Obamacare Mandate

'No Obamacare for Obama, his family, his staff, the vice president, the vice president’s staff, the rest of the administration, Nancy Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi’s staff, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Reid’s staff, all other House and Senate leaders and their staff, all committee members and their staff… the list goes on'

'A loophole written into the final healthcare reform bill passed on Sunday and signed into law by Obama yesterday, exempts Washington insiders and committee staffers from the mandate that now requires every American to purchase health insurance.

Members of Congress and their office staffers will have to buy insurance through the state-run exchanges created under the bill. However, those working for congressional committees or for party leaders in the House and Senate are excluded.'

Virginia First State to Pass Health Care Freedom Act: 38 States Lining Up Against Obama Care

WASHINGTON, March 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today Virginia became the first state in the nation to enact legislation to protect their citizens from being forced to purchase health insurance or participate in any health care system against their will. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has identified 37 other states that have similar bills pending or have announced that they will introduce this legislation. Already, at least one house of the legislatures in Idaho, Missouri, and Tennessee have also passed such legislation.

'These legislative initiatives are based on ALEC's model Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act. Under the legislation, any state attempt to require an individual to purchase health insurance--or forbid an individual from purchasing services outside of the required health care system--would be rendered unconstitutional. The measure may also cause a federalism clash if Congress passes a law with either of these provisions.

"Control over our own individual health care choices is something most Americans take very personally. It is not surprising that so many state legislators are eager to pass legislation to protect their constituents from any health care mandates, either from the state or federal government," said Christie Herrera, director of ALEC's Health and Human Services Task Force, which is coordinating the nationwide effort.'

Welcome to Obamacare: Mayo Clinic in Arizona to Stop Treating Some Medicare Patients

'The Mayo Clinic, praised by President Barack Obama as a national model for efficient health care, will stop accepting Medicare patients as of tomorrow at one of its primary-care clinics in Arizona, saying the U.S. government pays too little.

More than 3,000 patients eligible for Medicare, the government’s largest health-insurance program, will be forced to pay cash if they want to continue seeing their doctors at a Mayo family clinic in Glendale, northwest of Phoenix, said Michael Yardley, a Mayo spokesman. The decision, which Yardley called a two-year pilot project, won’t affect other Mayo facilities in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.

Obama in June cited the nonprofit Rochester, Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for offering “the highest quality care at costs well below the national norm.” Mayo’s move to drop Medicare patients may be copied by family doctors, some of whom have stopped accepting new patients from the program, said Lori Heim, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, in a telephone interview yesterday.'
