"How do you not get sick of being healthy? Don't you ever crave oily, fatty food?" Um, no. I truthfully don't.
"You eat as much as an obese person. I bet one day you'll get super fat."
"I don't believe you. Pumpkin can't go with everything." Just try it mate.
"You shouldn't eat so many nuts, there're so fattening, and there's so many calories in them!" DON'T fear the fat. The right kinds anyway. And high calories? Psh I don't care.
"You eat before you go to bed? Thats so bad for you!" NOT true.
I've gotten a lot of questions about my nightly last meal. About an hour before bed every night I have this ritual, if you will. Greek yoghurt, almond milk and a scoop of casein protein all mixed up, with various (usually nutty and chocolatey) TOTALLY clean toppings.
(exhibit A: ON's Chocolate Peanut Butter Casein with greek yoghurt and almond milk, topped with natural peanut butter, melted organic dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts)
I've said on instagram that this is not only my favorite meal of the day (not hard to tell why) but also one of the most important. In order of importance, this one ties with breaking the fast and the post workout meal. This is because this meal is my chance to fill my body with protective, slow release protein AND to catch up on the calories and macros I've missed during the day.
Eating before bed is one those things that the media has made people scared of, along with carbs and fats. They've made us believe that all this energy will turn straight to fat if it goes unused.
The truth is that it’s the total calorie intake over the course of the day that determines whether a food will turn to body fat or not. It doesn’t matter when the calories are eaten, just that they don’t put you over your total daily calorie intake.
Spreading your calories out evenly throughout the day will help maintain a stabilized energy level, but from a fat gaining perspective, eating before bed won’t cause weight gain in and of itself.
Hope this clears things up for anyone who may have been confused!
