'It’s not as colorful or alluring as many fruit and vegetable superfood varieties, but garlic is actually one of the most powerful healing foods that you can include in your daily diet. I’ve written about garlic in the past, specifically covering the many ways in which this common food can protect against cancer and infections. Find Out What Garlic Can Do For You

'Garlic can rightfully be called one of nature’s wonders. It can inhibit and kill bacteria, fungi, parasites, lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood sugar, prevent blood clotting, protect the liver and contains anti-tumor properties.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, garlic can also boost the immune system to fight off potential disease and maintain health. Garlic is a broad spectrum antibiotic, killing a wide variety of bacteria.

Many pharmaceutical antibiotics kill only a narrow range of these germs. Dr. Tariq Abdullah, a prominent garlic researcher stated in the August 1987 issue of Prevention: “Garlic has the broadest spectrum of any antimicrobial substance that we know of — it is antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiprotozoan and antiviral.”'

Cheaper than a Visit to the Doctor: Garlic Soup

 http://www.roshani.co.uk/livingtoeat/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/garlic-soup.JPG

'Our family was so healthy this winter, I just praise God for all the sicknesses we missed out on as friends and family around us were struck with this bug or that one.  The first time I even felt a tickle in my throat was in March, and I had been talking with a friend about the health benefits of garlic, so I knew just what to do.  Garlic has awesome antibiotic and antiviral properties, and chicken broth also builds immunity, so I made a garlic soup to drive away the tickle.

A soup with SIXTEEN cloves of garlic in it…and it worked!  I can’t say I got enough sleep (I never do), and while there’s no way to prove that this soup healed my almost-cold, it certainly felt like a tonic.  I ate the soup three days in a row and fought the tickle the whole time, until it just disappeared.'

Cook with Garlic to Fight the Flu

Cook with Garlic to Fight the Flu

'It’s flu season again. Every year those nasty little viruses take hold of our bodies (probably to get a bit of warmth) and rule just about everything we say, do, feel, or think–at least for a few days. This year’s swine flu has people particularly nervous. If you’re trying to survive flu season unscathed or to beat the flu you already have, make sure you eat plenty of garlic. Your friends won’t like you, but neither will the flu bugs and other viruses you want to keep at bay.

Not only does garlic beat off flu viruses, that small clove helps lower high blood pressure, prevents hardening of the arteries and lessens cholesterol buildup in the heart. Thanks to many studies on garlic’s medicinal properties, we also know it is antibacterial and antifungal. Research even implicates garlic in the prevention of stomach cancer and in giving the immune system an overall boost. Just what the doctor ordered at this time of year.'
