U.S. citizens urged to speak up for Michael Schmidt and food freedom

'A campaign to flood U.S. and Canadian lawmakers with letters of support for a Canadian farmer who was convicted on charges connected with selling raw milk products has spread to Michigan.
Sample letters, contact addresses, and background of the case were re-posted this morning in EatLocalSWMich, a Kalamazoo-area online for people interested in local foods.'

Government Protects "the Children" From Parents and Raw Milk

 http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2011/08/05/us/RAW/RAW-articleLarge.jpg

This dumbed-down piece on
the website Real Raw Milk Facts is one of the most inept propaganda
pieces I have ever seen making the case against raw milk. The author of
the piece, Richard Raymond, invokes hyperbolic history and distorted
facts to make the case that, under no instance, should any person be
able to freely purchase raw milk. Among the many reasons he wants to see
federal laws against the sale and purchase of raw milk: the CDC and the
FDA do not endorse raw milk. He writes:

'Laws are written for a reason, usually to help keep us
safe. Parents who find ways to circumvent the laws should be held
responsible when their children suffer because of their actions.

But to buy this product and feed it to your children? Might as well
lock them in your car on a 100 degree day while you stop by the casino
to try and win the jackpot.'  "

The Latest Raw Milk Raid: An Attack on Food Freedom? (Atlantic Monthly article)

'Despite a lack of victims, Rawesome stands accused.

And while Cargill has no shortage of victims, nobody at the company has been charged with a crime over the turkey recall. The government has fewer options against multinational corporations than it does against neighborhood food co-ops. USDA oversees the safety of meat products but can only encourage "voluntary recalls" of products that have been infected with antibiotic-resistant pathogens, reports Tom Philpott of Mother Jones.

The final decision to recall was left to the company, which inevitably considered the bottom line as well as public safety when making its decision.

While Cargill self-polices, the Rawesome club has been under more intense scrutiny than members even realized.

"Since the raid it's come out that we've been under investigation since June 30 of last year," Buttery says. "They've been monitoring us from unmarked vehicles; they have agents who have become members."'

BBC to Air The Food Show on Raw Milk

Shouldn't Everyone Have a Choice to Choose Unprocessed, Fresh Milk?

'I’m excited to say that BBC’s The Food Program is covering the issue of raw milk. I’ve had the privilege of being contacted by the producer, who has been speaking to various people about raw milk, to prepare for this program, and she has received a copy of “The Untold Story of Milk” by Ron Schmid.'

Missouri court rules in favour of raw milk farmer’s right to deliver product

“(Greene County, MO) — 'It’s a big win for farmers and people who prefer to buy locally-grown food. A husband and wife who run a farm in Conway have been acquitted on charges of illegally selling raw milk inside Springfield city limits.'

Dangers of Pasteurization and Homogenization

'When certain procedures go unquestioned, we accept them as being “just the way things are.” But pasteurization and homogenization denature foods. They alter the chemical structure of food, make fats rancid, destroy nutrients and result in the formation of free radicals in the body. The fact is everything we know about cow's milk and dairy is probably part of a dairy industry myth.
All cow's milk (regular and 'organic') has 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol. Cow milk may also have measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics (perhaps 53, with LS-50), blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses.'

Criminalizing Nature’s Most Perfect Food: FDA’s war on private food contracts

Is the FDA’s war on milk part of US strategy to ban all private food contracts?

'This industrial food experiment, historically speaking, is completely abnormal. It’s not normal to eat things you can’t spell or pronounce. It’s not normal to eat things you can’t make in your kitchen…. And as more people realize that this grand experiment in ingesting material totally foreign to our three-trillion-member internal community of intestinal microflora and -fauna is really biologically aberrant behavior, they are opting out of industrial fare.'
- Joel Salatin

'Not just natural milk fans, but all who seek private food arrangements will appreciate Raw Milk Revolution. The number of cases discussed and his close look at the scientific arguments provide solid ground for defending the right to make our own food choices. He also reveals just how far CorpoGov will go in shutting down all competition to industrial food. The book is indispensable for anyone writing about the food wars: key arguments, cases, people, and organizations are listed in the expansive index for easy reference.'

Gumpert closes his book with a warning:
'If secretive government regulators are successful in their efforts to deprive consumers of unpasteurized dairy products, they will be emboldened to push us farther toward their vision of reliance on sterile factory food.'

FOOD FASCISM: Family Farm Ordered to Destroy 50,000 Pounds of Cheese

File:Grapes and Cheese, Downpatrick, July 2010 (02).JPG
Farm’s Perfect Safety Record Matters Not to Authorities!

By Kimberly Hartke

'Morningland Dairy is the latest attempt by the FDA to fulfill the Healthy People 2020 objective to kill raw dairy. Morningland is owned by Joseph and Denise Dixon, who operate the cheese plant and make raw cheese from cows kept right on the property and managed by one of their eldest daughters. They have 12 children, 4 who still live at home, and they have been actively engaged in real food for decades. They were caught up in the Rawesome Raid dragnet and many believe the questionable California Dept of Food and Agriculture tests on their cheese are the legal justification for the multi-agency guns drawn raid at Rawesome.'

The Raw Milk Fight Has Gone from Fringe to Mainstream

Big Factory Farm Dairy is Trying to Stomp Out Raw milk Production in USA

'The battle has raged mostly in the West and Midwest. In California, movie stars like Martin Sheen joined demonstrations with bad-boy raw dairy farmer Mark McAfee, who runs the largest raw dairy in the country, during 2008 in a vain effort to pass legislation that would have loosened regulatory restrictions on raw milk.

Over the last six months, in Wisconsin, a growing citizen movement on behalf of raw milk has led to passage of legislation that would reverse the state's long-standing prohibition on raw milk sales, and allow consumers to buy it from the farm. The governor has indicated publicly that he'll sign it, but in the charged atmosphere over this issue, anything is possible.

But now that regulators are moving to stem the flow of raw milk in the East, affecting the supplies of Boston lawyers, business owners, and health professionals, as well as even Washington bureaucrats, the situation is moving from fringe to mainstream.'
