Outdoor Riding (& a winner!)

Gorgeous weather is on the way all week. Which means I couldn't resist taking my bike out for the first outdoor ride of the season and test out my christmas gift for real...

My beautiful aerobars that Kevin gifted me! I worked on trying to get used to transitioning between them and the handlebars, and found I loved the aero position. It felt great for my back!

I can't wait to recap my race & entire trip for you!

I bet you've been waiting to find out if you won some LARABARs!

No more excuses

Source: Uploaded by user via Jennifer on Pinterest

The past few weeks, I've found a lot of excuses.
To be honest, my running has been lacking. I knew I wanted to take a short break after the marathon to let my knee feel completely better. But it's obvious that now I'm just being a slacker. I haven't been running much, the treadmill is boring me to death. With all the talk of half ironman, you would think I'd be running, biking & swimming enthusiastically right now. I've been riding more, haven't gotten in the pool, and haven't done a run over 4 miles.

Did I forget I have a half marathon on St. Patty's Day?

I don't want to beat myself up too much. I have been getting to TRX & Bootcamp. I have been running short distances (and having a pain free knee). I have been getting trainer rides in on the bike. I have started a new Yoga class. The truth is, planning for races takes time. Research on the race, training strategies, looking for clubs, coaches, and support to get me to the end of 70.3 is a lot.

I have been very thankful to the girls on Team Tough Chik. They have sent me training plans, and offered encouragement and advice. I have a friend from PT school who is going to help me ease into the triathlon club. I have another friend, Barbie (we did our first Tri together), who is helping me get my ass in the pool Sunday, while I help her get her butt moving after having her baby. I'm so thankful to all the wonderful support systems I have.

Seriously.
I need to stop making excuses.
I need to make time for a long run this weekend.

How do you stop making excuses?

Are you curious at who won the 2nd $50 Spa Week giftcard from Trop50?

Disney Outfits & Tough Chik Winner!

Thank you everyone for your votes on my Disney Outfit... so far between blog readers, friends, and family, Snow White is in the lead.

Check out my post HERE to see all the options and let me know what you think!

I should mention that I got all of the picture collages from google images courtesy of Sparkle Skirts. While I do think Sparkle Skirts are fun & super cute, I haven't trained in them and I feel most comfortable in Running Skirts skirts. So my skirt will not be sparkly, but I'll be putting some bling on my top. And amazingly enough, Road Runner Sports has tank tops in any color I may need. I'm thinking about arm warmers in case its cold. I'm not sure what color would be best for snow white for arm warmers and compression socks?

I almost forgot, but the winner of my Tough Chik giveaway!
I loved seeing how many Tough Chiks there are out there, but there can only be one winner. And that winner is... Hayley @ Climb Run Lift Mom!
email me at sgrigely at hotmail dot com to claim your prize!

I also have some exciting news...
I joined Team Tough Chik!
I still need to send in my bio, but I'm looking forward to being a Tough Chik all year long.

By the way, I killed my tempo run this morning. Knee. Feels. Awesome.
Trying not to jinx it.

New races, new friends!

I had a fabulous run this morning, but skipped my ride with the Competitive Edge girls tonight.
My left knee is bothering me a little, and now that I have signed up for a 5K saturday, I want to be in my best condition to go after that PR!
I've decided to head to West Hartford Saturday & meet up with Kristin @ Bigger Girls Can Run Too & Kristin @ Running to Somewhere! I'm even more excited because I also discovered that one of them is running RnR Providence & the other the Hartford Half, and I am doing both. I love to meet new racing friends!

So tonight I am taking it easy, keeping my eating in check and working on blog stuff & organizing training plans. So exciting! As a sneak peak...
Slim and Scrumptious: More Than 75 Delicious, Healthy Meals Your Family Will Love

Joy Bauer's Food Cures: Treat Common Health Concerns, Look Younger & Live Longer

Both books came in the mail yesterday, and I can't wait to dive into them. Especially the recipe book, YUM! There will be reviews and giveaways once I've made it through them thanks to the amazing folks over at Joy Bauer, where we'll be doing a little collaborative work this summer.

oh, and my winner?

My Running on Empty giveaway winner is...

Running on Empty: An Ultramarathoner's Story of Love, Loss, and a Record-Setting Run Across America

Ann is doing some serious kick ass work in the weight loss department! I could use a motivational boost from her. Check out her blog & cheer her on!!

What I'm excited about...

I'm off to bed in a few since I have an early morning at 5am of bootcamp. I'll have to be up super early, but I am so excited to start it! I'll try to keep it short and sweet.

There's a few other things I'm excited about too...

1. The Josh Billings Runaground race. One of my friends told me about it. Its a race done typically in teams (which will be us), but you can do it by yourself. The race is a 27 mile bike, 5 mile kayak & 10K run. I'll be doing the bike portion. SUPER excited!

2. There are some GREAT fundraising raffles going on right now, and I wish I had time to mention them all (I will try to another day), but definitely check out Baby Weight My Fat Ass HERE to win an awesome Trigger Point Therapy set to help benefit Autism!

3. This weekend is 4th of July which means a 3-day weekend for me, fireworks, parties & fun! Hopefully a day at the beach if its nice out. Oh ya, and a 10 mile run.

4. The winner of my Kushyfoot giveaway is Kari @ Running Ricig! email me Kari with your address, and I'll send them you're way. P.S. She has an amazing Banana bread recipe that was a HUGE hit with my coworkers!

Happy Monday!

ALO Winner!! (and sugar ray & bruins)

Did you hear who is headlining the Providence RnR Half Post-race concert?

Sugar Ray.
I'm wicked excited, I totally had their tape when I was in middle/high school.

I momentarily considered doing the Boston Run to Remember Half on Sunday, instead of our 12 miler. Then we decided we didn't want to drive to Boston & wake up extra early. I guess I just figured whats 1.1 miles more?

ALO Winner is.....

K!, with no blog that I know of!

Thank you to everyone for entering, I have a couple more reviews and giveaways lined up, so stay tuned!

Bruins vs Lightening
obviously I'm go Bruins, and they just scored.
They better win this game.

Bedtime! Especially since I have to work tomorrow!

Last 3 winners!

Just finished packing for Boston after dinner out with friends and the man. I got some goodies in the mail yesterday...

Thanks for the new Bondi Band and Gu chomps/gels Kari!

Tomorrow we will be picking up race packets, then doing who knows what. Eventually we will make our way to Boston Beer Works for dinner and to watch the game. Since we don't have tickets, we will at least go to our favorite place for some beer and sweet potato fries. And since its right across from Fenway, I figure Lindsey will get the whole Sox experience for a fraction of the price. I am wishing I was going to a game though, I don't think we have tickets until July or August!

Now... the last 3 winners of my fundraising raffle

Lesley @ Racing it Off

email me ladies at sgrigely@hotmail.com & let me know which of the prizes left you would like from HERE

Don't forget to check out my giveaways while I'm gone

Goal Accomplished!!

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I've reached my Run to Home Base fundraising goal!!
A special thanks to Michel @ Baby Weight My Fat Ass for pushing me toward the goal line!
Those of you who donated, I appreciate your support tremendously. You helped me raise $255 toward my goal!

This weeks winner is...

Karen is a blogger I missed on meeting at RnR NOLA, but hopefully we can meet up at RnR Providence!

Karen email me your prize choice!

from now until the prizes are gone, I will pick a winner every day until all prizes are gone!
You can still donate & check out the prizes HERE

A week from tomorrow I will join my brother, and my friend Lindsay (who just returned from Afghanistan in the Airforce!), to run a 9K ending at Fenway Park to support injured vets of war.
I will be wearing this....
And probably a black top, and a special Bondi Band that the amazing folks at Bondi Band made for me!

Unfortunately, I waited too long to book a hotel room. The combo of the race, a Sox game, and college graduation, left me with one choice at $360. Theres 3 of us at least to split it, and its in a great location by Copley Square. I just reallllly didn't want to sleep on my brother's futon.

I have a couple of good posts planned (reviews, giveaways, etc), but I've been crazy lately. Today yucky weather (rain the rest of the weekend), should help me catch up on blogging. Till then!

2 weeks to go!

I only have 2 weeks left until the 9K! I only have 10 days left to do my fundraising, and I am only $40 away from my goal. I'm super sad because I haven't gotten any raffle entries in over 3 weeks. I could really use your help to rally & finish my fundraising, please check it out HERE!

Since I didn't pick a winner last week (computer issues), I have 2 winners this week...

Lesley @ Racing it Off!

and

please email me with your choice of prize!

This weekend has been a busy one. I have been trying to work on my nutrition, but its been hard. Scorpian bowls, hibachi dinner, beers and hanging out with friends have gotten in my way. I need a better way to remind myself what I want. I decided to write down my goals and rewards (i'll post later), to try and keep me accountable. Most of the rewards are race entries, so I'll be pretty sad to not get them, which should help give me motivation.

9 mile run today. really tough, I wanted to give up, but we plowed through. Then rewarded ourselves with Panera breakfast sandwiches. YUM.

Tonight we're having my mom & sister & Kevin's grandmother over for dinner. Healthy chicken on the grill with a peach & strawberry salsa, grilled squash, and angel food cake trifle for dessert. wish me luck on the cooking!

Sheriff Sprint Triathlon Race Report

Sheriff Sprint Triathlon
300 yard swim, 8.8 mile ride, 3.2 mile run

Sunday morning was looking to be a beautiful day. I woke up, had my breakfast (peanut butter & banana on whole wheat toast), and started to get ready. After gathering the rest of my stuff, getting dressed and having the roomie do my hair, we were off!

The race was a small one (only 134 finishers), and my friend Debbie was racing too. Kevin came to cheer me on, and also my dad and little sister, and my brother and his girlfriend.

Me & Deb pre-race

A little before 9 we headed to the pool. They lined us up by number (they said numbers were based on our estimated swim time). I was surrounded by tall men. I was nervous. I asked them not to plow me down, just to pass me. We had 300 yards to swim, 6 laps across the pool. I probably didn't take off until 9:30 or so, since they sent a person about every 15 seconds.

Getting ready to go!
Off I went! I have a problem with getting anxious at races and my heart rate getting too high. I could feel it creeping up already. I managed to pass the guy in front of me. I felt like my technique was pretty good, but was happy to finish.

swim time: 6:05
3rd in Athena, 77nd overall

I ran from the pool to transition, and quickly put on my socks, shoes, and helmet & grabbed my bike. After getting to the road, I had a little trouble clipping in to my pedals, but was soon on my way. I had already ridden the route, so there were no surprises. A few rolling hills, but nothing major. A few people passed me, including the guys I started the swim with. According to my Garmin I was going on average 30 sec faster per mile using a lower resistance and faster cadence as one of my patients had told me a couple days earlier. As a result, my heart rate was high. I was just hoping I could control it better once I got off on the run.

Coming in on the bike
bike time (including swim/bike transition): 36:46
2nd Athena, 106 Overall

Racked my bike, changed my shoes, and grabbed my new handheld bottle (review to come soon!). As I grabbed my Garmin from the bike, something happened, and the whole thing shorted out. blank screen. I was beyond mad. I really wanted it to help push me through the run. I was struggling, my heart rate was up high, I was having trouble getting my breath.  Maybe partly due to not feeling well friday & saturday, and maybe party due to the higher heart rate on the bike. My legs felt awesome, but my lungs were in rough shape. A few people passed me. A 57 year old man told me "good job" and to keep it up. I pushed on, stopping to walk as needed. A girl passed me who looked like she could be an athena. I wanted to badly to keep up to her, but I just couldn't do it. I was feeling defeated, and disappointed. I was so happy to see the finish line.

Coming in on the run to the finish!
Run time (including bike/run transition): 37:07
3rd Athena, 115 Overall

Was I happy to be done? YES! Was I happy with my performance? Not really. I felt like my run was really weak. I was disappointed in my endurance, and figured I kissed away any chance of placing. But then I saw the results posted. 3rd overall Athena, sweet! Not that there were many of us, but it was exciting anyways!

shadowy shot with my medal!
Total time: 1:19:59

Next up is Run to Home Base May 22!

Almost race ready

I started laying out my gear, and thankfully the crazy dreams stopped.

Today, I decided to shove my bike in the car and head over to the bike route of the race course for sunday. My original goal was to finish in under 37 min, but really I wanted to finish around 35.

guess what??

Under 35. And that was having to stop at 2 stop lights. And my legs felt awesome after, I wished I had brought my running shoes. I am so ready to kill this race on Sunday and hopefully take over the Athena category!

And my Optimum Nutrition winner is...

email me at sgrigely@hotmail.com with your address!

Happy swimming, biking and running!

Be beautiful!

todays quote:

"Being the best that you can be? That's beautiful..." Tyra Banks

We all want to feel beautiful. Beautiful can come in many different ways. I personally love the idea that being the best you can be is beautiful. Imperfections are perfect, and working hard is beautiful. Every day we face challenges, and some days are better than others. The days where I feel as though I've done the best I can, is when I feel the most beautiful.

When are you the best you can be?

Today was a crazy day. No workout, but plenty of activity of a different sort. Shopping and cleaning! I headed out early to hit Costco and Dick's Sporting Goods. Easter supplies and a race top for next weekend. I was so mad to find no red tops in sight. Not a single one, only pinks, purples, and blue. So mad!! I ended up buying a pink one just in case, then searched online for a while, but nothing that I really liked, or was in my size. Pink it will be, I guess!

Then it was cleaning time! Scrubbed, swiffered, vacuumed, dusted. Did I mention that besides running 8-9 miles, going to church, and going to my dad's house for brunch, that I am cooking Easter dinner? I am making ham (even though I don't eat it), mashed potatoes, green beans, and other goodies for Kevin's family and my roomie. Yikes! I'm praying I don't mess it up, since I have no idea how to cook a ham!!

Food has not been a strong handle for me the past few days. Dinner out last night and tonight. I seriously need to start focusing, I can feel my waistline expanding. not good.

I didn't have a chance to post this weeks raffle winner yet...

email me your prize choice!

Have you donated yet??
I only have 2 weeks left to fundraise and I am over $200 away from my goal. I would really appreciate any help you can give. As incentive to donate for those of you who haven't yet, I will give anyone who donates this week an extra 3 entries into the raffle. Please help me out by visiting the raffle page HERE.
Those of you who have already donated, can earn an extra 3 entries by dedicating a post on their blog to my raffle fundraiser. Comment about it on this post once you do.

Thank you again to everyone who has donated & supported me. It really means a lot & I truly appreciate it!

Bedtime for an early run (go Bruins!)

Happy Weekend!

Last night I had the most delicious dinner, and I should have snapped pictures. We went to one of our favorite places, Eastside Grill in Northampton. Gorgonzola garlic bread & pan seared scallops to start, then dinner was butternut squash ravioli. We followed it up with a trip to La Fiorentina for coffee and dessert.

YUM.
However, not part of my healthy eating plan. ::sigh:: oh well, it was heavenly. I did manage an awesome run yesterday morning. When I was finalizing my early summer training schedule (I know it took me forever), I realized RnR Providence is 4 months away! Which is the training time for the FIRST training plan, that I used so successfully for New Orleans. So I decided to make Providence my A race, with all my sprint Tris as B races throughout the training cycle. Unfortunately it will affect my long runs since most of the races are on Sunday, so I'll have to figure that out.

Yesterday was Friday, which means I need to pick this weeks winner for the Run to Home Base Raffle!! In case you don't know what I'm talking about, the short story is I am raising money for injured war vets & need your help! With your donation, you are entered into a raffle with a prize to be drawn each week for some fabulous prizes!!

This weeks winner is....

email me your choice of prize!

There are still TONS of great prizes to win! Check them out HERE!

today I am a working girl, then hoping for a ride outside because it is a gorgeous day in Massachusetts! enjoy the day!
