Frush Party!

Recently I was given the opportunity to test out a new yogurt shake with some friends and share the love with you!

The frush fun begins!

Coupons and more fun!

Frush is a fruit & yogurt smoothie...

I got a few friends together to try it out...

Trying out the Frush!

Origin Food Group, based in Statesville, N.C., is the maker of früsh™ Yogurt & Fruit Shakes. The company’s all-natural offerings include shakes in strawberry, blueberry, peach and strawberry banana flavors available in 8.4 oz. and 32 oz. sizes. The line is the centerpiece to Origin Food Group’s plan for growth and production in North Carolina.

Overall, we had mixed reviews.
The guys loved the peach & strawberry.
I wasn't wild about how sweet they were.
I also thought 33 g of sugar was a lot for a yogurt drink.
One bonus? More Protein and calcium than other yogurt smoothies.

früsh, a grab-and-go yogurt and fruit shake, is now available in the dairy cases at nearly 1,500 Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Hannaford, Price Chopper and Piggly Wiggly stores.

This expands früsh’s distribution from the 500+ Lowe’s Foods, Ingles Markets and BI-LO stores in the Carolinas, southward into Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Florida and northward into Virginia, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Yum!

(Not) Working for the weekends!

Yesterday I got word from my boss that he was able to accommodate my weekend racing schedule.

wicked awesome.

Working at a hospital means weekends are required for me, and with 2 therapists leaving, and only 3 of us left, I was nervous. I decided on a whim to give him a list of my weekends I have plans for (one wedding, a few sox games, spectating my brother's first marathon, and a bunch of races for myself), and to my surprise, he was able to do it!

i wish!

Maybe its because I am being super flexible with my vacation week this summer. I am letting everyone else pick first, then picking from what is left. Maybe its because I told him I wouldn't work my per diem job so I could work when I'm free there (now that my pay rate is the same I really don't care where I work). This year we didn't have any solid vacation plans, but my weekends were most important to me. So I'm happy I got what I wanted.

So you know what that means??

I took out that race calender and started some planning. I registered for Susan G Komen 5K at Bushnell Park in CT that I run every year (although I'm disappointed that they are now charging $4 extra to get a D-tag & have your race timed). I reserved a hotel for Rock N Roll Providence (did I ever mention running that one?) at the Marriott downtown. The race I really am itching to sign up for is my first triathlon of the year, but I need my estimated finish time for the swim since that determines the order we start in. I want a little more practice before committing to that (skipping my swim workouts does not help).

My eating has been great, completely on plan with WW, but I have been so exhausted my workouts have been lacking. I was completely unable to get out of bed for a swim this morning, and could barely drag myself to work. I tried eating a little more protein today to maybe pep me up, hopefully it will work, if I keep it up. I got a fabulous shipment on my doorstep to help me with that, which means an awesome giveaway in the works for you!

Another early night to bed? I have a run I need to aim for in the morning!

Why not fast food?

Energy-dense foods, such as fast food (picture...Image via Wikipedia

Well, Most of us knows that the physical health affects our mental health, I think you probably are aware that fast food has extremely high amount of calories, high in fat as well as sodium and carbohydrates than protein, vitamins and minerals, So if somebody is constantly eating those fast food, they'll going to be getting all those extra energy fuel for their body except that it's not going to have the vitamins and minerals that the body need.

So if you are consuming fast food on a daily basis, maybe not everyday but maybe every other day. You are still be getting high amount of calories with really low nutrients, so now your body is constantly needing the nutrients that you are not getting from the food, so I think that it contributes to food cravings, basically a food craving is your body wanting and saying that he needs those nutrients, so you are always hungry and always looking for food. and you may eat a meal and shortly after that you are hungry again and so you are looking forward for another meal.

now remember all those energy you get when you eat at fast food, in just few days of eating them constantly, You will now feel irritable, grumpy i must say. You may have that energy back if you eat again, but it will soon fade away, the fast food really does makes you fat and not getting any food nutrients that we need. So this maybe hard but this must be stop. Maybe once in a while is ok, but everyday? or every other day? think again. So when you are hungry why not grab something healthy.

Why Hemp? Six Reasons at Least

Hemp seeds in a small bowl with teaspoonImage via Wikipedia

Very recently, I received an email in response to an article posted on Natural News several weeks ago. The reader was critical of Dr. Blaylock's advice for fish oil as an Omega 3 source in my article. He thought I should have referred to hemp oil as an exceptional source of Omega 3 (for vegetarians and vegans in particular) and even for carnivores, since mercury routinely gets sucked up by fish in our polluted waters. Not to mention the controversy over-harvesting (of fish) and the dangers of consuming farmed fish. Farmed Fish Could Give Humans Mad Cow Disease.

So, I started looking into hemp, and I have found more than one reason why hemp oil, seeds, and powders should be consumed as "super foods".

  1. Hemp is the best source of plant based essential fatty acids with its perfect 3 to 1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3.
  2. Hemp also contains Omega 9, giving you the complete trio of essential fatty acids.
  3. Hemp contains the most protein and best balance of amino acids than any other plant source.
  4. Hemp is rich in antioxidants and vitamins C and E.
  5. Unlike soy or legume protein sources, hemp's protein is easily digested without the enzyme inhibitors that create gas.
  6. Toasted hemp seeds are tasty and hemp oils are better tasting than fish oils.
And it doesn't have to be certified organic. Hemp is hardy enough to not need insecticides and pesticides. Canadian hemp is THC free. So you can't get high. Ah well!

Even though the chemical industries have pressured or bought the powers that be in the States to prohibit growing hemp for decades, THC free hemp products from Canada are allowed. The nervous system and brain needs Omega 3, which is low or missing completely from other food sources, while the cardiovascular system needs Omega 6 and 9.

Health Maven is pleased to offer
Hemp USA products via our blog (see banner). While you're here take a minute and peruse their varied hemp offerings. We think they are one of the very best hemp distributors on the planet.
