Arranging a US Famine

'The list of things that the government has done or has put in place that would only exacerbate or even cause food shortages are many and they run side by side with policies that prevent ordinary people and especially the poor from growing their own food.

An article http://foodfreedomgroup.com/2012/10/23/alexandria-virginia-stopping-the-poor-from-growing-food-by-ted-brooks/ on Alexandria, Virginia, exposes how it quietly removed home gardens from the poor in public housing, while loudly touting access to fresh local food it had itself ended, as well as promoting community gardens, which the city controls, and in what turns out to be extremely limited number and limited space to grow food, and charges a fee.

This sleight of hand has occurred across the US.  Cities proudly proclaim community gardens but behind the scenes, they have removed the poor’s access to growing food on the land they live on, including simply growing food in pots.

Primarily using recent corporate “food safety” laws as the weapon to curtail people’s producing or sharing or selling food themselves, laws have been put into place and police actions have been occurring that expose a pattern of.'

The Silent Time Bomb on Your Plate: Watch FRESH for free till March 3rd

http://foodfreedom.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/fresh-the-movie.jpg
by Dr. Mercola

Free Viewing of FRESH until March 3rd at Dr. Mercola's web site HERE

'The "faster, bigger, cheaper" approach to food is slowly draining dry our planet's resources and compromising your health. The Earth's soil is depleting at more than 13 percent the rate it can be replaced. The documentary "FRESH" celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system.

The film demonstrates how we can collectively transform the current "industrial agricultural paradigm" into a healthier, more sustainable way of feeding the world, while restoring the health of our ailing planet. I hope you will set aside the time to watch it, as it will be time well spent.

We have already lost 75 percent of the world's crop varieties over the last century. Over the past 10 years, we've had 100 million tons of herbicides dumped onto our crops, polluting our soil and streams. The agriculture industry now tries to convince us that housing 110,000 to more than one million chickens or 20,000 hogs in a warehouse is a necessary practice to feed the masses.'

FDA Escalates War Against Amish Dairy Farmers

 http://bonfiresblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/raw-milk-liked1.jpg?w=257&h=380

'Kinzers PA – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) apparent war on Amish raw dairy farmers increased on December 6 when they filed a “motion for summary judgment,” with Pennsylvania judge Lawrence Stengler asking for a permanent injunction against dairy farmer Dan Allgyer to forbid him from selling fresh milk out of state. FDA regulation 21 CFR §1240.61 criminalizes any selling of milk intended to cross state lines.'

New Zealand --WAKE UP! Food, illegal? Not in my back yard...

 http://www.islandbreath.org/2009Year/2009-06/090630fascism.jpg

'Warrantless searches of houses and marae for food and seeds, even with guns, are coming to NZ soon thanks to the Food Bill – unless you do something.
The following video shows a SWAT team raiding a health food store in California. The Food Bill paves the way for this to happen in NZ (yes, also with guns, in clause 265 – 1). This site deals with Solutions to this Very Big Problem. Please watch the video, listen to the audio, and read the text and comments. Thank you.

'What is the Food Bill?
- A Government Bill introduced to Parliament in May 2010, which has since passed its first reading and been through a Select Committee review. It is awaiting a second reading as at 20 July. It may be enacted in the near future.

What are the problems with the Food Bill?

- It turns a human right (to grow food and share it) into a government-authorised privilege that can be revoked by the Governor-General.

- It makes it illegal to distribute “food” without authorisation, and it defines “food” in such a way that it includes nutrients, seeds, natural medicines, essential minerals and drinks (including water).'

FDA Sends US Marshals to Seize Elderberry Juice Concentrate, Deems it 'Unapproved Drug'

 http://foodfreedom.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/fda-farm-raid.jpg?w=219&h=300

'Wyldewood Cellars, a Kansas-based producer and distributor of elderberry juice, is the latest raid target of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which recently sent US marshals to the company's winery in Mulvane to confiscate the "unapproved drug." According to the rogue agency, Wyldewood had violated provisions in the US Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) that restrict health claims for food items, warranting the sudden invasion.'

Monsanto and the big fat lie of food safety

 http://www.catholicbinder.com/Images/Symbols/Fascism_Liberal_Agenda.png

Vandana Shiva doesn't mince words. 'Food safety is food fascism.'

"Risk Assessment in the hands of centralized corruptible agencies is no protection for consumers as the disease and health epidemic in the U.S. linked to over processed, industrial foods shows. Even while the U.S. is at the epicenter of the food related public health crises, the U.S. government is trying to export its Food laws which deregulate the industry and over regulate ordinary citizens and small enterprise. This deregulation of the big and toxic and over regulation of the small and ecological is at the core of Food Facism ..."

Goebbels is equally straightforward.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

Canada Okays GMO Wheat!

http://www.twentyandchange.com/laurascountryoven/img/bread%20in%20basket.gif

'Canada is giving the go ahead to GMO wheat. Although it is not ready for production yet, the plans are set: The National Research Council plans to develop genetically modified wheat in Canada — a measure long resisted by the country’s wheat farmers. The NRC says Canadian wheat farmers are becoming less productive and need to adapt, especially in the face of climate change. It suggests GM wheat as a solution.'

“Milk War” documentary on Michael Schmidt and raw milk is nominated for James Beard Foundation TV Special / Documentary award for ichannel

'Milk War was written and directed by award-winning journalist Kevin O’Keefe, and produced by Declan O’Driscoll. Gemini Award-winning actor Colm Feore narrates. It made its world television premiere on ichannel, Canada’s political and social issues network, on Sept. 26, 2010.

The film tells the story of Ontario dairy farmer Michael Schmidt’s battle with government authorities for the right to distribute unpasteurized milk, a practice outlawed in Canada since 1991. His opposition to the raw milk ban led to a high-profile court case and touched off vigorous public debate on a question of basic freedoms: should government have the right to decide what we, and our families, are allowed to eat?'

Raw milk farmer Michael Schmidt and the right to “eat what we want”

'Michael Schmidt’s grandfather was part of the Agriculture course with Rudolf Steiner in 1924, his family fled their ancestral biodynamic farm in Germany in the middle of the night from occupying Russian troops at the end of World War II, and he has fought tirelessly for the rights of farmers and consumers in Ontario for the better part of a generation.

In November 2006, Michael Schmidt’s farm in Durham, two hours north of Toronto, was raided by over 20 armed officers. They weren’t looking for drugs or guns.'

'The passionate debates about lost rights, corruption, freedom, and responsibility is just that . . . a debate with few consequences and results unless, that is, one begins to understand the interesting dynamics of the human soul within these current debates.
The empowerment through position and mandate is very often mistaken as real authority. Authority in the current common understanding simply means that someone can tell you what to do.
This fake authority, assumed through position or mandate, very often creates a strange dynamic where one must struggle to look behind the mask in order to find the human being.
It is truly remarkable how many bureaucrats gain power through this anonymous process.'

Was It the Good-Cop-Bad-Cop Routine That Enticed So Many Foodies to Sanction FDA's Takeover of Food System?

'I keep asking myself, how did we ever get to this point, where political and economic control of America's food system is on the verge of being turned over to a government agency whose leaders declared early this year we have "no absolute right" to "any particular food" or to "bodily and physical health." Shutdown of two small cheesemakers raises more doubts about food-safety legislation

 http://www.hyscience.com/food%20police.jpg

Editor's note: Are you confused about whether to support the Food Safety Modernization Act (S. 510)? You're not alone. We've decided to ask the major players to debate its pros and cons for an upcoming Food Fight roundtable -- watch for it late next week.

'In all the acrimony that has settled over Washington, one major legislative matter has continued to receive bipartisan support: food safety legislation intended to give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration vastly expanded powers to reduce the amount of contaminated food getting into distribution.

Highly publicized outbreaks over the last few years involving everything from spinach to peanut butter to ground beef to eggs have only seemed to heighten the support from consumer groups and the media alike. Grist contributor Elanor Starmer last week argued that we have a serious food safety problem only this legislation can resolve. The proposed legislation, strongly encouraged by the Obama administration, sailed through the U.S. House last fall, and then through a Senate committee earlier this year'

Africa, Chocolate, Bill Gates, Monsanto, and the Genetically Modified Land Grab

By Barbara H. Peterson

On October 25, 2010, the ETC Group issued a report titled “Gene Giants Stockpile Patents on “Climate-ready” Crops.” It seems that the biotech giants along with Bill and Melinda Gates, are teaming up once again to force genetically modified (GM) crops down the world’s throat, and Africa is high on the list of targeted countries.
To gain desperately needed moral legitimacy, Gene Giants like Monsanto, BASF, Syngenta and DuPont are forging high-profile partnerships with public sector institutions that aim to deliver proprietary technologies to resource-poor farmers.
(Gene Giants Stockpile Patents on “Climate-ready” Crops”)
Not surprisingly, the Gates foundation has invested heavily in the biggest gene giant, Monsanto. “Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s investment portfolio includes 500,000 shares of Monsanto stock with an estimated worth of $23.1 million purchased in the second quarter of 2010” (Farm Wars).

Food and Depopulation: Monsanto’s Monopoly

by Cassandra Anderson

(Part 2 of 4)

'A monopoly is exclusive control of a commodity or service that makes it possible to manipulate prices. This is accomplished through governmental regulations used to enforce the monopoly. The way to break a monopoly is to remove those laws. This is simple, but not easy in the case of Monsanto, because the roots extend to international, federal, state, and local government regulations. Monopoly owners corner a market by taking control of the resource AND preventing others from using the resource.

'The famous robber baron JD Rockefeller refined this method of monopolization with Standard Oil; he created a cartel (an agreement between companies to avoid competition) with the companies he could not buy or force out of business through extraordinarily corrupt business practices. Competition creates a free market; JD Rockefeller is famous for saying, “Competition is a sin.” Of course, the Rockefellers have an enormous stake in biotechnology and the Rockefeller Foundation funded the biology centers and research that led to the creation of GMOs; F. William Engdahl’s book, “Seeds of Destruction”, is highly recommended for the complete details.'

This Bill Will Kill Small Farms and Wreck Our Food Supply

'S 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, may be the most dangerous bill in the history of the US. It is to our food what the bailout was to our economy, only we can live without money.

“If accepted [S 510] would preclude the public’s right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature makes. It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one’s choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God.” ~Dr. Shiv Chopra, Canada Health whistleblower'

Food Fascism: Congress Debates the Toxic Corporate/Government Farm Bill

'The Farm Bill, a massive piece of federal legislation making its way through Congress, governs what children are fed in schools and what food assistance programs can distribute to recipients. The bill provides billions of dollars in subsidies, much of which goes to huge agribusinesses producing feed crops, such as corn and soy, which are then fed to animals.

By funding these crops, the government supports the production of meat and dairy products—the same products that contribute to our growing rates of obesity and chronic disease. Fruit and vegetable farmers, on the other hand, receive less than 1 percent of government subsidies.

The government also purchases surplus foods like cheese, milk, pork, and beef for distribution to food assistance programs—including school lunches. The government is not required to purchase nutritious foods.'

Why Doesn't 'Our' Government Subsidize Small, Organic, Fruit and Vegetable Farmers?

by Tara Lohan

'What would our society look like if fruit and vegetable products received more of the cut? I’m reminded of the scene from the Oscar-nominated film Food Inc., where a lower-income family grapples with the issue of spending what little money they have on fast food burgers because it is cheaper and more filling than buying fresh vegetables but knowing that they’ll end up likely spending even more down the line in health costs. That’s a decision that no family should have to make.

Clearly our prices for food are skewed. Interestingly, the Times has another graphic about how food prices have changed over the last 30 years, and shockingly it’s fresh fruits and veggies that seem to be getting much more expensive, while most everything else seems to be going down or holding relatively steady.'

More Food Fascism: S 510: Small Farms Under Attack AGAIN

What is NAIS?
On Wikipedia
NAIS: http://nonais.org/

From an email:

Right now, huge numbers of small farms across France which were known worldwide for their cheeses, are gone. The [can no longer sell] cheeses their families had profitably sold for generations because they suddenly couldn't meet the new corporate EU "food safety" standards, (See the PBS show "The Cheese Nun" for a view of this.) Those standards were arranged carefully by corporations specifically to get rid of farmers and S 510 is designed to "harmonize" with those EU laws.

Here's what the EU is doing and what S 510 would do

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed. - Ayn Rand
