Powerful Court Quietly Takes Marijuana Case That Could Shatter Federal Prohibition Laws

'“Based on evidence currently available, the Schedule I classification is not tenable,” Grant wrote in the 2012 issue of the Open Neurology Journal . “It is not accurate that cannabis has no medical value, or that information on safety is lacking. It is true cannabis has some abuse potential, but its profile more closely resembles drugs in Schedule III.”

The DEA rejected the petition in June 2011. Administrator Michelle Leonhart declared that marijuana had no accepted medical use, because no form of it has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The Department of Health and Human Services had previously concurred that it had a high potential for abuse, because an estimated more than 14 million people get high illegally at least once a month.'

A Marijuana Revolution in the Making on Election Day

'As we approach November, the leading Democrat and Republican presidential candidates remain conspicuously, though predictably, silent regarding the question of marijuana law reform. By contrast, much of the public and the mainstream media can’t stop talking about pot politics. That’s because voters in six states this November 6 will have their say on the subject. If present polls hold, federal officials on November 7 will have little choice but to acknowledge that they have a full fledged reefer rebellion on their hands.'

Study: Passage Of Medical Marijuana Laws Correlated With Fewer Suicides

 http://www.umsl.edu/~keelr/leaf.gif

'The enactment of statewide laws allowing for the limited use of cannabis therapeutically is associated with reduced instances of suicide, according to a discussion paper published recently by the Institute for the Study of Labor in Bonn, Germany.

Researchers at Montana State University, the University of Colorado, and San Diego State University assessed rates of suicide in the years before and after the passage of statewide medical marijuana laws.

Study: Smoking Pot Won't Give You Lung Cancer, or Hurt Your Lungs at All

 http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Bob-Marley-Poster-Rasta-Smoking-Weed-Reggae-Legend-/19/!BgcVnZ!!mk~$(KGrHqQOKiQErzLD9OnVBLFVuflb,g~~_3.JPG

'According to a new study, exposure to cannabis smoke, even over the long-term, is not associated with adverse effects on pulmonary function.'

'Further, in 2006, the results of the largest case-controlled study ever to investigate the respiratory effects of marijuana smoking reported that cannabis use was not associated with lung-related cancers, even among subjects who reported smoking more than 22,000 joints over their lifetime. (Read NORML’s summary of this study here.)

“We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use,” the study’s lead researcher, Dr.Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles stated. “What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect” among marijuana smokers who had lower incidences of cancer compared to non-users.'

A Higher Level of Freedom: Cannabis' 120+ Benefits to Health

http://www.umsl.edu/~keelr/leaf.gif

'While this article is not focused on the recreational use of cannabis, Terence McKenna's quote speaks directly to a sacred right, increasingly being legislated against in our society, namely, the ability to choose and use substances that grow freely on this Earth as our medicine.

In a day and age where possession of an herb like cannabis is an offense punishable by incarceration, it is important for us to reflect on how we arrived at this dark point in time.

Herbs, after all, were put here by God. If you prefer the word Nature, the point is the same; and it was put best by Bob Marley when he said: “you can't tell God it [cannabis] is illegal.”'

'I recently spoke with Dr. William Courtney for an article on juicing raw cannabis to obtain access to CBD, the cannabinoid found useful for reducing inflammation, cancer and nausea.  Some of you had some questions for him.  Since it will [be] awhile until the article comes out, here are the bare bones answers.  The rest should be in the High Times Medical Marijuana magazine soon.  I’ll post a link when it comes out.'

Contrary To What Many Studies Suggest, Marijuana Use Does Not Lead to Mental Decline

'Cannabis is one of the most powerful healing plants on the planet. Dozens of studies have made pseudo scientific attempts to indicate that young people who use cannabis tend to experience psychological, social problems and mental decline. However, there is no evidence that marijuana use is directly linked with such problems, according to the results of a study published in The Lancet.'

Basque Country to Legalize, Regulate Marijuana

'The parliament of Spain's Basque Country Autonomous Community will approve a new drug law early next year that will regulate marijuana cultivation, distribution, and consumption, EFE reported Tuesday.

The Basque Country Autonomous Community is charged with setting and enforcing domestic law within its borders in northeastern Spain. If the bill passes, it would mark a direct challenge to the United Nations' 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which forbids legalization.'

5 Popular But Harmful Drugs That Can Be Replaced With Marijuana

http://exposingthetruth.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/marijuana-leaf.jpg

'The notion that any authority can determine what a sovereign human being can and cannot ingest into their own body is the very essence of control. Banning any substance from responsible adult consumption no matter how harmful should simply not be permitted in a free society.

However, certain substances are deemed so harmful by “experts” that they claim to adversely affect society as a whole and thus they’re banned from the population. Of course, force of laws with guns and jails have never been able to eliminate their use throughout history. So, as a practical matter, banning any substance from society always tends to do more harm than good.

Copenhagen votes to legalise marijuana

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDmjxt_FcgDJTiiElXgRdil_FmNz0uapcWBFOzLhyphenhyphenfASvqu-jvpP8mUuKfjvxYOJWaBVcqIY1jhohd4Du4PLixL4NNG5An7cG0ezNhCXcMUYaFzFueM5ceUecFIoy387S_6yGTdx3jWze3/s1600/legalize+freedom+potleaf.jpg

'The scheme, if approved by the Danish parliament at the start of next year, could make the city the first to fully legalise, rather than simply tolerate, marijuana consumption. The drug is already sold openly on the streets of Christiania, a self-proclaimed 'free town' in the city centre, despite the closure of the neighbourhood's Amsterdam-style coffee shops in 2004.

But marijuana has never been officially decriminalised and those caught in possession of even small amounts face fines of up to £450. "We are thinking of perhaps 30 to 40 public sales houses, where the people aren't interested in selling you more, they're interested in you," said Mikkel Warming, the Mayor in charge of Social Affairs at Copenhagen City Council. "Who is it better for youngsters to buy marijuana from? A drug pusher, who wants them to use more, who wants them to buy hard drugs, or a civil servant?"'

BIG PHARMA FASCISM : Feds order all California medical marijuana outlets to close

 http://infohemp.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Medical-Marijuana-Dispensaries.jpg

'Federal prosecutors in California are threatening to shut down medical marijuana dispensaries throughout the state, sending letters to warn landlords to stop sales of the drug within 45 days or face the possibility that their property will be seized and they will be sent to prison.

The stepped-up enforcement appears to be a major escalation in the Obama administration’s bid to rein in the explosive spread of medical marijuana outlets that was accelerated by the announcement that federal prosecutors would not target people using medical marijuana in states that allow it.

“It’s basically the federal bureaucracy doing what it has done for the last 15 years and just continuing to put its head in the sand and saying no on this,” said Dale Gieringer, the director of California NORML.

The four U.S. attorneys have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning in Sacramento to outline their plans to target marijuana cultivation and sales in California. Earlier this year, the prosecutors circulated an internal memo that indicated they would focus enforcement efforts on dispensaries and growers that dealt with more than 200 kilograms or a 1,000 plants a year.

Legalizing Marijuana Number ONE Issue At White House Website!

NYPD Ordered to Stop Marijuana Possession Arrests

'New York City may soon shed its infamous reputation as the pot bust capital of the world. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly Monday issued an internal order to the NYPD telling officers they can no longer arrest people for marijuana possession in public view if the marijuana was not in public view before officers either searched the person and produced it or the person produced it after an officer's demand that he empty his pockets.'

No Wonder It's Criminalized: Marijuana Makes Tumors Shrink and Halts Their Growth

http://cdn.theweedblog.com/wp-content/uploads//Medical-Marijuana2.jpg
'Ever wonder why a plant made from nature for all of us to enjoy is criminalized? Look no further than the wheels that turn government -- namely greed and corporate profits on behalf of big pharma. After all, why else would something natural be banned? In this case, because it helps prevent cancer. Researchers in Spain have discovered that a marijuana makes brain tumors shrink by halting the growth of blood vessels that supply the tumors with life.

Since when are herbs classified as drugs? We really should pose this question to
wikipedia who classifies the herb a drug under its lisiting.'

Diabetes, Cannabinoid Therapy & Magnesium

 http://www.umsl.edu/~keelr/leaf.gif

'There is nothing more needed in medicine today than a way of treating
diabetes and metabolic syndrome because these syndromes lead directly
to cancer, heart disease and stroke. I wrote New Paradigms in Diabetic Care
to address what doctors and medical officials are loath to face—the
real causes of diabetes. Diabetes is not the hopeless disease that most
doctors would have us believe. There are safe treatments and lifestyle
changes that will prevent diabetes from destroying your life.'

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta declares that
33% of the babies born this year will be diabetic by the year 2050.
Dr. Alan Cantwell

'Dr. Gregory T. Carter, Clinical Associate Professor of Rehabilitation
Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine says, “Marijuana
is a complex substance containing over 60 different forms of
cannabinoids, the active ingredients. Cannabinoids are now known to have
the capacity for neuromodulation via direct, receptor-based mechanisms
at numerous levels within the nervous system. These have therapeutic
properties that may be applicable to the treatment of neurological
disorders including anti-oxidative, neuroprotective, analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions, immunomodulation, modulation of glial cells and tumor growth regulation.[10] Intracellular changes and altered signaling of the neurons seems to be the principle effects of the cannabinoids in marijuana.'

Moms for Marijuana (Yes, You Read That Right)

'Starting an international movement to promote the benefits of cannabis was never Serra Frank’s intention when, in 2005, she created a simple MySpace page.

The Boise, Idaho, native had been suffering from interstitial cystitis since 2002, although it took seven years to get a correct diagnosis. Interstitial cystitis is not a pretty medical condition. A chronic inflammation that prevents the walls of the bladder from expanding properly, which in turn causes them to crack and bleed, it can hurt like hell. When Frank’s symptoms first surfaced in 2002, she was pregnant with her second child. Her doctor prescribed Percocet, an acetaminophen/oxycodone combination, but it failed to quell her pain.'
