Wilderness Family Naturals still in business, despite FDA prosecution

 

“Once upon a time, in the year 2000, Annette and Ken Fischer decided to start a business supplying healthy nutrient dense products like coconut oil, dried berries, and spices over the Internet. They started the business in their home in the remote forests of Minnesota and named it Wilderness Family Naturals.

The couple worked hard, involved their children as helpers, and gradually grew the business so much that they had to move it out of their house to a small town about twenty miles away, so they’d have regular mail and delivery service and the ability to hire employees. After another couple years, they moved to even larger facilities in the neighboring town of Silver Bay, a town of 2,000 people. 

Soon Wilderness Family Naturals was the town’s second largest employer, with close to thirty people, and it was selling its coconut oil, dried berries, and herbs to people all around the U.S.'

FDA Raids Amish Farm for Raw Milk

''Joking aside, the FDA really did try to raid an Amish farm for raw dairy. Rather than retelling the tale, here it is as first told by Deborah Stockton:

'In what used to be a free country it seems the FDA even want the Amish to stop drinking raw milk. In a total disregard for his health freedom, agents of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) came onto the property of Amish farmer Dan Allgyer, without permission, claiming to be conducting an investigation gents Joshua Schafer and Deborah Haney, from the Delaware FDA office, drove past Allgyer’s "No Trespassing" signs and up his driveway almost to his barn, where Allgyer happened to be outside.

'Allgyer approached the car, the agents got out and Allgyer asked them why they were there. They produced a piece of paper, asked Allgyer if he was Dan Allgyer, which Allgyer confirmed, asked him his middle initial and phone number, entered the information on the paper, told Allgyer they were there to do an inspection and started reading the paper to him, saying it gave them jurisdiction to be there.'

'Speaking via phone from Ecuador on Saturday, Caton's wife Cathryn said that the FDA finally explained its reason for her husband's abduction during Florida court proceedings. The FDA claimed that Greg Caton violated his supervised probation under a 2003 plea of selling "unapproved drugs."

"Selling unapproved drugs" is a charge usually filed against herbalists who sell herbs and also make claims about the herbs' medicinal properties. The FDA does not allow medicinal claims about food or herbal products by those who also sell them. No actual "drugs," in the traditional sense of the term, were involved in the 2003 Caton case.

Cathryn Caton said that Caton's company Alpha Omega Labs (AltCancer.com) had been selling herbal products after Caton's release in the US, but that the herbs were sold from Ecuador where herb sales are legal along with information on their medicinal properties. In fact, Caton had moved his company to Ecuador specifically because he could continue working with herbal remedies without restrictions on the information provided to customers.'
