Packing for Disney!

I started packing last week...
The way I pack is by overtaking the guest room the week before a big trip and laying out and collecting things as I go to try to avoid the last minute scramble. Somehow, it never works and I'm always crazy to the last minute! Here's my race gear list (not for the rest of the trip or cruise)

My race essential packing list
sneakers- Asics GT 2160? (I think I'm on the 60s)
Moving Comfort Rebound Racer bra
CEP compression socks x 2 (for race & post race)
Blue embellished tank top (hand done by me! Don't you love it?)

Keep warm clothes (Just in case! courtesy of goodwill!)
The travel size stick
Garmin & charger
Glide
Freshly loaded ipod shuffle & headphones
ibuprofen
signed waivers
organic whole wheat bread & peanut butter
bananas

phew, what a list!! Anything I'm missing?
I'm also working at making sure I have together all the cruise essentials for the rest of the vacation. Since I wasn't able to get today off from work, and we're flying out at 6:30am tomorrow, I managed to get my mani & pedi earlier in the week. I hope I can get to bed at a decent time since I have to be up so early!

This morning was my last run before the race. My knee started acting up, seriously? During the day at work it started to feel worse. Luckily I have some amazing coworkers who did trigger point to my IT band, hamstrings, and calf, along with some patella mobs. I took some McConnell tape, since I was told my patella is off track and I have a massage tonight. I am hopefully it will feel better after that and a little rest.

I better get back to packing!
Tomorrow I will have a post scheduled to get me pumped up for the race, so be sure to leave me TONS of love tomorrow on that one. I'll need it! Then while I'm gone, I have some guest posts & other posts scheduled, so make sure to stay tuned.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, and especially everyone heading to Disney!

Disney Marathon Outfit!

I've been seriously contemplating my running outfit for the Disney Marathon. I know I want to dress with a Disney theme, but I can't pull together the final details. I know I want to write in rhinestones "my first marathon", or something like that on the front of my shirt, and my name on the back. I know I want my outfit to include a skirt from Runnkingskirts.com since that is what I wear for every training run and I love my side pockets for my honey stinger chews. So far, here are my thoughts.....

Minnie Mouse: Red mini dot skirt with a black top & my black CEP socks. Red headband and maybe some ears. Problem... Running Skirts is out of the skirt in a size 5. Anyone have one I could borrow?

Snow white: Yellow Running Skirts Skirt (in stock), blue top & red headband
similar to this

Belle: Yellow Running Skirt, yellow top, yellow headband, maybe yellow arm warmers if I can find some
similar to this

Cinderella: If the running skirts pool or aqua is a close enough color....
similar to this

Any other ideas?
What would you choose for me?

Marathon Training Week 12 Recap
Monday- 60 min trainer ride on the bike
Tuesday- Missed my Speedwork run since I was sick with a sinus cold
Wednesday- Missed TRX because of the sinus cold. Managed 1 hour 40 min ride on the trainer while watching the biggest loser marathon.
Thursday- scheduled 10 miles @ PMP... only had time for 8 miles before work.
Friday - Finished up the other 2 miles & threw in 1 more for good measure.
Saturday- Planned on riding the bike trainer and watching Kona Ironman, but instead did miles of walking while shopping like crazy.
Sunday- 13 mile long run. I was so happy since the knee didn't bother me until mile 7, even with tons of hills in Forest Park. I had to take a few stretch breaks, but overall the knee felt a million times better than last weekend, and left me hopeful for the marathon. My running partner S told me she finished her 18 miles in 3:15.... I have a feeling that she may blow me away in the marathon and leave me on my own. I'm trying to decide how I feel about it. At least its at Disney, right?

Nutrition- FAIL. Cheesecake, Cupcakes, Cake pops. OMG I did not do well with eating. My new goal is to cut down on the sweets this week.

Please help me with my running outfit!

ALO Review & Giveaway!

Recently I was given the opportunity to learn more about ALO

The company is named for the elements we live within,  Air, Land, and Ocean. They are an amazingly green company, from the materials they use for their clothing (eco-friendly performance fabrics), recycling packaging products, and using solar panels to power their workspace, they are always looking for ways to a more eco-conscious company. Check out everything they do to be a greener place HERE fabulous.

Check out the video here:

ALO Mission:
Create high performance, stylish lifestyle wear with outstanding function, designed and produced with minimal impact on the environmental elements alo stands for: Air. Land. Ocean. We provide customers with a choice that is respectable of the environment with out sacrificing fashion.

ALO sent me the Performance Tank in Lapis/Azure & the Mesh Inset Capris to try out.

Performance Tank

The performance Tank is not currently available on the ALO site, but you can find it HERE for $48

This tank is a stylish addition to a workout wardrobe. It is made of 88% Nylon, 12% spandex, and has coolfit wicking capabilities, and an antimicrobial treatment to keep it odor and germ free. There is a shelf bra, and under bust color contrast detail.

I wore this tank several times for treadmill runs, and lifting weights at the gym. It was perfect when worn with my Moving Comfort Juno bra (a C-cup means the shelf bra helps hold the regular bra in place). The fit was super flattering, and I loved the color contrasting to highlight my neckline and chest. The fabric was soft and comfortable, no chaffing at all.

Mesh Inset Capris

The Mesh Inset Capris retail for $53

These are a black capris pant, fitted through the hip and thigh. It is made of 90% nylon & 10% spandex. Detailed seaming across the thighs, make it a slimming fit. The mesh insets provide ventilation for cooling.

I've worn these several times for runs and strength training workouts at the gym. I'm usually not a pants girl, since I get too warm, so the mesh panels worked out great for me. The wide band at the top & overall fit of the pants was very flattering. The material used was very soft, and kept me cool & dry throughout my workout.

Overall, you could tell how well made the clothing is. ALO makes workout clothes that will last for years, and look good the entire time. I washed the outfit several times and the fabric remained soft, and the colors bright. When you want a quality workout outfit that will last, check out ALO to see what they have to offer. In fact.....

Road ID review and giveaway!

First, I want to take a minute to thank Scott at Outside PR for hooking me & you guys up with a few exciting giveaways! The first is for a Road ID!

I started running almost 4 years ago, and did my first 5K with my friend Mon. For christmas that year, she bought me a road ID. At that time, I wasn't doing a ton of running outside, but I made sure to strap it on wherever it went. Mon and I are both in the medical fields, I used to be an EMT as well, and she is a firefighter/paramedic. When tragedy or disaster strikes, it is helpful to have identifying information on you, and a contact person to alert of the situation. My Road ID eventually found a permanent home on my fuel belt.

My Road ID

From their website:

Here are just few reasons why you should make Road ID part of your gear.

1. If you can’t speak for yourself, Road ID will speak for you.
2. Road ID enables First Responders to immediately contact family members and friends.
3. Road ID enables family members to provide additional details about your health or give consent for potentially life saving procedures.
4. Road ID enables hospital staff to locate vital medical records.
5. Road ID can communicate medical conditions or allergy information to medical staff.
6. Road ID can prevent serious delays in treatment by saving crucial time during the “golden hour” of medical treatment.
7. It’s far better to have Road ID and not need it than to need Road ID and not have it. It’s not just a piece of gear, it’s peace of mind.
8. Accidents happen far more than you think they do. Each year approximately 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without identification.
9. Road ID looks good on and makes a statement about your athletic lifestyle – not to mention that studies would probably prove that people that wear Road ID are considerably smarter than those that don’t.
10. Road ID can save your Life. Period.

I couldn't agree more, so please get one if you don't already have one! Or win one here!

Inperspire Towel review & Giveaway!

I am a sweaty girl. I bring a towel every day I go to the gym. Not only do I use it to mop up my sweat, but I like to throw if over the screen of the machine I'm on to avoid staring down the minutes until I'm finished. I came across Inperspire, was pumped that I might actually have the option at staring at something other than the ratty old hand towels I currently use.

I loved the company philosophy:
Our philosophy is that everyone can be healthy... sometimes we just need a little motivation to help us along the way.

We supply the motivation.  You supply the sweat!
Darla, Jimmy, Dana & Greg

They may be a small company, but man are they passionate! If you ever check their facebook posts HERE, you'd see that they stay late to ship out every last order of the day, post smoothie recipes, post workouts, and even have taken the time to comment on some of my status updates!

Another plus, they work hard at being a green company. They use recycled tissue paper for packaging, are committed to recycling & using energy efficient products, and encourage others to do the same. Overall they are a group of inspiring, and passionate people with a pretty awesome product on their hands.

The towels come in 28 different designs. When I talked with Jimmy about my selection, I was torn, but decided to go with the "Sweat is Sexy". This is clearly because I sweat like crazy, so I figure I must be extra sexxxy. Super fast shipping! I wouldn't be nervous about orders coming in on time for christmas (what a great gift these would make!), I received mine within a couple days of ordering.

When I got my towel, it was packaged in pretty tissue paper and looked really nice (nice like you could put it in a box for a gift nice). The towel was SUPER soft! So important for something your face is going to be rubbing up against (I know my hand towels are not). I was so excited to use it, I used it the next day at the gym.

Loved it! Super absorbent, and I loved draping it across my screen. Only problem? I should have washed it first! Fuzz from the towel got on my sweaty face, and I’m pretty sure I looked a little ridiculous. No problems though, I tossed it in the washer/dryer later in the week, and there were no problems after that. It came out just as soft, and although the letters are slightly faded, the message still reads loud & clear.

a hot sweaty mess after the gym

These would make excellent stocking stuffers for your runners, triathletes, cyclists & gym-goers! At $10 a piece they’re even in the perfect range for the office yankee swap or secret santa. Here’s a few of my favorite towels:

Want one before santa stuffs your stocking? Inperspire has generously sponsored a giveaway with 3 WINNERS!! Each winner will get to pick out their favorite towel, and Jimmy will have it shipped off your way, ready to meet your sweat soaking needs.

Manchester Road Race Report

It was cold! Probably around 22 degrees F, and windy. We had a late race start of 10am, but this is a 15,000 person race. Last year, we ended up way in the back of the pack and spent the first mile dodging baby strollers, and stupid kids that were darting around in your way, or would run run run then stop directly in front of you. This year, we decided to go early & try to get to the front of the pack. We got to the shuttle buses around 8:15, and at the race start about 8:30. Met up with my friend A (who had the blood clot), she & her husband were watching because the race had sold out. We lined up around 8:45am, at the front of the pack behind the seeded gates that you needed a qualifying card to get in to. Stood around freezing, and chatting until 10am, then we were off!

Mile 0-1 - My feet were numb, it actually took the whole first mile to thaw out. I amazingly kept up with my brother & his friend who were starting out slow to warm up. 10:09

Mile 1-2 - The hills began. The elevation & length of the hills was killer. I had to take a short walk break once on my way up the steepest one. 11:10

Mile 2-3 - The killer hills continued until about mile 2.5, then it was downhill time. I am at my best on downhills. I fly through, pass as many people as I can, and try to make up some time from slugging up the hill so slowly before. I KILLED this mile 9:27

Mile 3-4 - Starting to get tired, HR was high. I had to walk a couple of times for 20 seconds or so. felt pretty good for most of this mile. 9:56

Mile 4-4.77 - pushed it with all that I had left. Some point here, I felt a splash of water around my ankles. At the end of the race, I realized this was the cap to the water bottle on my fuel belt falling off. No one had said anything to me when it fell. Oh well. Finished the race feeling tired & thirsty with a Garmin time on 48:01. 7:17 for the last .77

Official finishing time of 48:00! Perfectly even! I killed my time of 53:12 from last year & made my impossible goal of beating it by 5 minutes. I felt great after the race, and made some plans with a few friends and my brother to add a 10k & a 5k to the schedule for next weekend. My long run partner, S, will be on vacay so instead of running the 12 miles alone, I am going to split up my long run into races next weekend. 10k sat, 5k sun & 3 more miles on my own on sunday. not too bad to deal with.

Wanted to share my excitement on a couple of new things! First is my new Sugoi running jacket Kevin bought me for my birthday! I love it so much! Perfect color, has great reflectability, and the sleeves are even removable to turn it into a vest. They are held on with a super strong magnet.
The other thing I'm excited about is the pair of Ryders sunglasses that Scott at Outside PR sent me. Full review & giveaway to follow!

The thing I'm not so excited about? I know so many of you rave about Gu & how much you like it. Scott at Outside PR was awesome enough to send me a sampler pack of Gu to try. I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong with taking it, because I just could not handle the consistency. It was way too thick, and I couldn't choke it down. I liked the flavor (pineapple) that I tried on my longrun today, but had to toss it away because the consistency was so gross to me. any suggestions?

Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to enter my giveaway for Jessica's gifts running necklace HERE.

couple of great giveaways in the works so be on the look out! I'm off to the mall for some shopping (for me haha), so I'll recap todays long run later. Happy running!
